How to Use and Care
To help you enjoy your Mug Whisk for years to come, here are some simple tips on preparation, use, and care.
1. Before First Use +
Before using your Mug Chasen for the first time, gently rinse it by swishing it in a container of water.
Then, soak the bamboo tines in lukewarm water to help shape them.
This softens the bamboo tines and makes the chasen easier to use.
To help prevent damage to the tines and maintain the intended performance and feel of the chasen, be sure to follow these steps before your first use.
2. Before Each Use +
Soak the bamboo tines in lukewarm water for about 1–2 minutes.
This helps soften and open the tines, allowing the matcha to blend more evenly. It also helps create a smoother, finer foam and a more pleasant texture while reducing strain on the chasen for a more comfortable experience.
After soaking, gently shake off any excess water before use.
3. How to Use +
Add matcha and hot water to your mug.
Lightly rest the tips of the whisk on the bottom of the mug and whisk briskly using your wrist in a quick up-and-down motion. Avoid pressing the whisk firmly against the bottom of the mug, and let the bamboo tines do the work.
Continue whisking until the matcha is smooth and, if desired, a fine layer of foam forms on the surface.
The Mug Matcha Whisk can also be used for preparing matcha lattes, hojicha lattes, and milk foam.
4. Cleaning & Storage +
After each use, rinse the whisk with water or lukewarm water. Do not use detergent.
Gently remove any remaining matcha with your fingers and reshape the tines if needed.
Shake off excess water and allow the whisk to air dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
Using the included whisk holder helps maintain the whisk’s shape while allowing it to dry properly.
Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and humidity.
Ideally, the tines should open slightly, with the tips naturally curving inward. Minor changes in shape over time are normal and do not affect performance.
5. Notes +
This product is made from natural bamboo.
Because bamboo is a natural material, slight changes in color and shape will occur over time with regular use. This is a natural characteristic of the material and part of its unique charm.
When the whisk no longer blends matcha effectively, it is time to replace it.
